This should have been finished around last week but I got distracted by Enzai (yaoi game ) that arrived in the mail so I played that game rather than finishing this.
The original image actually shows more of their lower body and shows the entireity of Axel's back and hair as well but I wanted to try something else.
I guess I overdid their cloaks. God I hate coloring pleather XP
Background is bad, I suck at drawing/coloring, you know the routine..
Tools used: Adobe Photoshop CS, Graphire Tablet (did I mention that my tablet eraser stopped working after I finshed this? )
It's nice. I do like how the profile of [man with red hair] looks. (I never played KH1 or 2 for all the rest of you)
I do like how much time was put into the cloak. I don't know exactly how long it took for you to do it, but the hard work shows.
Background could have been a screenshot from the game maybe... just filter it and change it's hue to slightly gray, level it either lighter or darker than the image and it will be a nice background that won't take away from the main image.
I would avoid doing your own shadows... try the filters (that ying yang circle at the bottom of your layers) and change the dropoff setting for some auto-shadows that you can merge and edit.
But if I were to use a screenshot from the game and changed the hue/filter, wouldn't that still be considered some form copyright infringment?
This seems to be an ongoing issue in dA lately..

Well, a game's screenshot is used online all the time. you make sure you put inside the comments that:
-You are NOT selling the image
-You are NOT using the image for business/advertising/gaming purposes
-You are NOT claiming to own the background or where it came from.
Specifically mention how the background was taken to act as a compliment to the image and nothing more.
OR, if I were you, find a nice scene you liked from the game and draw it. Just make sure to keep it either lighter or darker than your image, always keeping it opposite so that your main image stands out more....... or make them both the same tint/shade to give it an artistic silhouette...
You can avoid doing leather if you just make the entire background black so that the shapes of their heads, necks, hands, and weapons are the only objects that are in color... it blends together and as long as your anatomy is correct, this method will emphasize all the right parts.
You can also do two very solid colors for silhouettes similar to those Ipod commercials... keep the faces and hands and whatnot for that unique look... I recommend breaking out the brushes for blossom flowers or any other splashes to make some interesting 3D effects.
I dunno... just throwing some stuff out there. I've been spending so much time getting faces to look right that I've forgotten how free an art piece is supposed to be.
Sorry for double posting, but the reason why you would want to avoid doing the leather comes from a quote:
to quote a genious: "Keep it simple, stupid."
In gaming, in music, in drawings... sometimes, the most simple mean the most.
Adding in tons of light reflections to leather is nice, but does it help the image? Does it give it more dimension and make it cool, or does it take away from the main point of the image?
... *sigh* It's about this point where I must say that art is art. Yaoi or not. I won't even think about the fact that those two are tugging each others chain........... lol
I should have know about all that sooner. Otherwise, this would have been so different. XP
And I think you're trying too hard on yourself to perfect your art. As my former art teacher would say: Your art will look better if you 'freak out' on it.
I think that he meant that going over your limits will have more pleasing results.
Then again, he was more of an abstract art teacher who criticized me for being too oppressive with my coloring
